Obama Talks Up Health Care in Black Community, While McCain Surrogates Get Meaner

For thousands of uninsured black Americans who are struggling to get access to quality health care, Barack Obama says he’s got your back.

“Health care is especially important for the African-American community,” Obama told black journalists in a conference call Thursday. “It’s one more reason why this is a critical election. We’re long overdue for crafting a health care system that will benefit all Americans.”

The Obama campaign is pushing its comprehensive health care plan at a time when an Associated Press poll shows that 78 percent of voters rate health care as at least a very important issue, behind the economy and Iraq.
