Hamilton Is Youngest Formula One Champion
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SÃO PAULO, Brazil (AP) — Lewis Hamilton of Britain became Formula One’s youngest champion Sunday, winning the title by a point over Felipe Massa after finishing fifth in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Massa, who drives for Ferrari, won the race in front of his home crowd, but he could not erase the 7-point lead Hamilton held before the race.
The 23-year-old Hamilton, who drives for McLaren, finished the season with 98 points. Fernando Alonso was 24 when he won the title in 2005.
“I am speechless,” Hamilton said. “It’s been a long journey in which I had the support of many people. My team did a fantastic job during the entire year and we sacrificed ourselves lot. I am happy for having achieved this for all of us.”
