It's over: Barack Obama will be our next president

Barack Obama is the next president of the United States.

In an hour or so he will pick up 73 electoral votes from California, Washington and Oregon -- which Democrats have won in the last 4 presidential elections -- putting him over the top in the Electoral College.

Obama's victory over John McCain was helped in great measure by resounding victories in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

McCain had counted on winning both states, but fell short.

Obama essentially is winning most of the states that Bill Clinton did in 1992 and 1996 -- and in both elections Clinton won more than 300 electoral votes.
