WHITE WOMEN - Who Should Fear More: Me Or Them?

By: Gregory Kane, BlackAmericaWeb.com

Oops, I did it again! I made another white woman get up and move. What a mean, menacing, lowdown black guy I must be.

Or was it racism once again rearing its ugly, annoying head?

Incident number one: I was at the Baltimore-Washington/Thurgood Marshall International Airport one afternoon, sitting in the car rental terminal, just chilling in a chair, working on a book of Sudoku puzzles.

I wasn’t sitting next to the white woman who was already seated. She was four, maybe five seats down. Nevertheless, after a few minutes, she glanced nervously at me and decided to move to another part of the terminal.

Incident number two: I was standing in the lobby of a very busy Sheraton Hotel in downtown Baltimore. The hotel provides some pretty comfy armchairs in the lobby for guests and visitors to cop a squat. I grabbed the only armchair available, next to a white woman. It took only a few minutes for her to bolt.

This one was especially insulting. I didn’t have a Sudoku book this time; I was reading a book called “Imperial Reckoning” by Caroline Elkins.

The subtitle of Elkins’ book is “The Untold Story of Britain’s Gulag in Kenya.” That gulag was established during the so-called “Mau Mau” rebellion from 1952 to 1954, which was depicted here in America as a bunch of wild African savages running around killing white folks.

The term “mau-mauing” derived from such foolishness. Long story short, Elkins’ book shows that the British did to the Kikuyu people of Kenya what the Nazis did to white folks in Europe. Of course, several high-ranking Nazis were hanged for their war crimes.

That’s why, to this day, I absolutely detest the term “mau-mauing.” If any BAW readers hear anybody using it, please clock that person for me, will ya? CONTINUE....
