WYNN BLASTS BUSH'S 2ND CHILD HEALTH CARE VETO

Washington, DC - In response to President Bush's second veto this year of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) reauthorization bill, which provides health care coverage for America's neediest children, Congressman Wynn issued the following statement:

"I did not think it possible, but with his second veto of children's health insurance today, President Bush has baffled me even further. Since his last veto of this program six weeks ago, both parties have worked extensively with one another in an effort to reach an acceptable compromise, particularly aimed at addressing the President's concerns.

"Since he's used his veto power sparingly during his Presidency, it is plainly evident that this recent spate of vetoes is nothing more than a political ploy. This is especially true considering that ironically in 2004, he promised to expand this coverage.

"Apparently, the President does not even deem the children of the working poor to be worthy of healthcare. For some inexplicable reason, he is turning his back on the people who need his help the most. It is truly sad and unfortunate that during this holiday season, we still haven't resolved this conflict."
