An anti-abortion religious group - the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Berkley, California - has announced the formation of a foundation with the aim of combating what it labels "genocide" in the African American community - the abortion of an estimated 1,400 Black babies each day.
The Issues4Life Foundation will be based out of Union City, California but the Executive Elder of the church, Walter Hoye, Jr., says he hopes to expand the organization nationwide.
Citing 2006 Census Bureau figures, Hoye issued a statement saying, "African Americans are reproducing below replacement level, which is 2.1 children per household, and we are now at 1.9 … because over 1,400 African American babies are aborted every day."
