Fr. Edward Miller, pastor of St. Bernardine’s Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore, Md., made it clear he made the remark to make the point, not to endorse any particular presidential candidate.
But the reaction of St. Bernardine’s black Catholics was revealing. They shouted, applauded and cheered when Miller began his sentence with “When President Obama invites you to his inaugural ball.”
I’ve been churching it up quite a bit lately, figuring the Lord would want me to pray for Baltimore’s many reprobates and scofflaws as opposed to my kneecapping them. I can’t really call myself a devout Catholic, but I wondered how devout black Catholics could bring themselves to vote Obama, or any other Democrat, into the White House.
The last I checked, the Catholic Church had this big thing about abortion. To be brief, the church is against it. Abortion is considered one of the gravest mortal sins by the church, and has been for years.
