At least two separate black groups have stepped up to say they want to run the iconic Ebony and Jet magazines, whose owners are reported to be shopping for a buyer.

Commentary: Did Ebony Magazine’s List of ‘25 Coolest Brothers of All Time’ Get It Right? Of Course Not

They’re the “25 Coolest Brothers of All Time,” according to the August edition of Ebony magazine. But do all 25 on the list belong there?

You know me. My answer is “Of course not.”

Now, it’s hard to argue with some on the list. Of course Sidney Poitier belongs on it, as do Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, Billy Dee Williams, Quincy Jones, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and Adam Clayton Powell.

Does Sen. Barack Obama belong on it? Yeah, yeah, the brother just might be the next president. And yes, he gives a great speech. But so does Louis Farrakhan. In fact, Farrakhan is better at giving speeches than Obama, and Farrakhan didn’t make the list.

Besides, how can a guy who most of us hadn’t even heard of five years ago be on a list of 25 coolest brothers of ALL time?
