FNC'S GLENN BECK RETURNS, ADVERTISERS DON'T

Wal-Mart, CVS, Sprint among 33 companies who pulled spots after he called Obama 'racist.'

Glenn Beck returned to Fox News Channel on Monday after a vacation, but 33 of his previous advertisers have decided not to follow him back, a move in response to his calling President Barack Obama a racist.
A total of 33 Fox advertisers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., CVS Caremark, Clorox and Sprint, have pulled their commercials from Beck's show, according to the companies and www.ColorofChange.org, a group that promotes political action among blacks and launched a campaign to get advertisers to abandon him.

Obama Comments Cost Beck's Show in Advertisers

By: Denise Stewart

More than 75,000 members of the Internet-based advocacy group Color of Change have signed a petition calling for advertisers to pull their support from "The Glenn Beck Show" after the Fox News Channel personality made comments about President Barack Obama considered to be racially divisive.

In an appearance on the "Fox & Friends" morning show July 28, Beck said, “This president has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep seated hatred for white people ... This guy is, I believe, a racist."

TV's Golden Age of Rage

O'Reilly, Hannity, Olbermann and the rise of white rage on cable television.

By: Cord Jefferson

This is the modern face of cable television news: angry, emotional, mouth agape in the midst of some hateful monologue. Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed, the worst purveyors of cable news rage are all white men over 40. The era of the angry white man is officially here.

NAS & COLOR OF CHANGE.ORG STEP TO FOX NEWS: Rapper and activist organization deliver 600,000 signatures of protest.

As you no doubt know, a lot of black folks are not feeling Fox News because they seem to go out of their way to make African Americans look bad.

If you can identify with the afore mentioned, you're not alone. One of the people feeling your pain is Nas.

Yesterday, the rapper hooked up with ColorOfChange.org to protest outside the network's Manhattan headquarters and present a petition to the news organization. The organization convinced over 600,000 people sign a petition aimed at curbing the news outlet's penchant for biased reporting.

"The organization saw me as someone who could be a part of it, and they reached out," Nas said referring to ColorOfChange.org. "I was like, 'Hell yeah, I'm a part of it!' This is a network that's been going after rappers ... yet Bill O'Reilly uses the phrase 'lynching party' for a woman. That's the worst term I've ever heard to disrespect a woman, and he says it on television. And he doesn't like rappers? Wow."

The grassroots organization heard Nas' lyrical lambasting of Fox on the new song "Sly Fox" and asked him to help with its protest, according to MTV News.

Fox: Jackson Used N-Word in Off-Air Remarks

By: Sophia Tareen, Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) For decades, the Rev. Jesse Jackson has rallied against the use of the N-word -- an ethnic slur he has repeatedly told the American public is hateful and degrading. But Fox News confirmed to The Associated Press Wednesday that the longtime civil rights activist used the term in what Jackson thought was a private conversation during a break from a TV interview.

Jackson has already come under fire this month for crude off-air comments he made against presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama that were recorded during a taping of a "Fox & Friends" news show.

Commentary: Obama Was Right, but -- His Stupid Comment Aside -- Jackson’s Underlying Concern Was Too

By: Deborah Mathis

For the moment, let’s set aside the crudeness and rudeness of the reverend’s remarks, as captured in whispered tones on none other than the Fox network; and let’s, instead, go to the essence of Jesse Jackson’s criticism of Sen. Barack Obama when he said to a fellow TV talk show guest, “I wanna cut his nuts off.”

Now, what might make a man who has built his career on peacemaking -- or troublemaking in the name of peacemaking -- say such a thing? Especially a man, purportedly, of the cloth? “Pop him up ‘side the head” or “slap him silly” or even “kick his ass” -- any of those would be more like it (though Fox and other media would make just as much out of it). But “cut his nuts off?” Even womenfolks have to say, “Yeow.”

What might get Jackson that hot under the clerical collar could just be that he thinks Obama is talking or behaving in a way that upsets the good reverend’s life’s work or life’s message. It was, after all, Obama’s now-infamous Father’s Day speech at a Chicago church that Jackson referenced in what we might call “the amputation comment.”

Jackson Apologizes for Obama Remarks

By Brian Stelter

The Rev. Jesse Jackson apologized Wednesday for critical comments he made about Senator Barack Obama that were picked up by a Fox News Channel microphone.

According to various reports, Mr. Jackson made disparaging remarks, apparently including a crude reference, about how Mr. Obama was talking to black people.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Jackson, a former Democratic candidate for president, said: “For any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused, I apologize. My support for Senator Obama’s campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment.”

Mr. Jackson apologized after Fox News said it would would be broadcasting the remarks on “The O’Reilly Factor” Wednesday night.

Fox Refers to Michelle Obama as 'Baby Mama'

By: David Bauder, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK - (AP) Fox News Channel referred to Michelle Obama as "Obama's baby mama" in a graphic on Wednesday, the latest in a trio of references to the Democratic presidential campaign that have given fuel to network critics.

The graphic "Outraged liberals: Stop picking on Obama's baby mama" was flashed during an interview with conservative columnist Michelle Malkin about whether Barack Obama's wife has been the target of unfair criticism.

In the past two weeks, Fox anchor E.D. Hill has apologized for referring to an affectionate onstage fist bump shared by the couple as a "terrorist fist jab," and Fox contributor Liz Trotta said she was sorry for joking about an Obama assassination.
