Herman Cain Presses On Amid Allegations

Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain went before a friendly audience of conservatives on Friday and pitched his trademark economic plan, eager to leave accusations of sexual harassment behind.

Scandal Proves Herman Cain’s Incompetence

His clumsy handling of the unfolding sexual harassment scandal proves that Herman Cain does not have the intelligent judgment necessary to be President of the United States.

If Herman Cain was a bit smarter and little less arrogant he would’ve anticipated this crisis and prepared for it. He’s always known about the sexual harassment complaints made against him when he was president of the National Restaurant Association, so at some point over the last 12 years Cain should have drawn up an action plan for how to explain himself when the news came out.

Politico.com approached Cain for a comment 10 days before going to press with the harassment revelations. Like any responsible, objective journalistic organization, Politico wanted to include Cain’s perspective in its original story. And 10 days was more than enough time for Cain to huddle with his advisors and decide on a consistent narrative to answer the allegations. That would have been the smart move. But smart moves aren’t exactly Herman Cain’s specialty.

Instead of getting ahead of the scandal by explaining himself up front, Cain blew Politico off. And then, after the story broke, Cain made himself look inept and dishonest by first evading, then denying then finally admitting that he had been accused of sexually harassing a female NRA staffer and yes he did know that the NRA cut the staffer a check in exchange for her silence.

For a retired CEO, Herman Cain has demonstrated remarkably poor crisis management skills in this matter. But we shouldn’t be surprised. Cain established his reputation as a bumbler long before Politico.com brought this old sexual harassment case to light. Look at the record:

Cain said that if you’re unemployed that it’s your own fault. CONTINUE....

Wait, Isn't The Right Supposed To Be Racist?

As sexual harassment allegations against black Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain surfaced this week, conservative supporters rallied to his defense. Rush Limbaugh, who's famous for nothing if not his racist radio rants, has taken up for the gospel-singing, former Godfather's Pizza CEO who's leading in the GOP polls. Conservatives who would normally balk at any allegation of racism don't seem put off in the least by the assertion, made by Cain's PAC, that the attacks on him represent a Clarence Thomas-esque "high-tech lynching."

This seemingly unconditional embrace of Cain -- who brags that his ancestors were slaves, wants to be called "black American" instead of "African American" and has nicknamed himself "the Black Walnut" -- isn't new: He won the Florida straw poll and is neck and neck with Mitt Romney in Iowa. Republicans praise his plain-speaking debate style and call him "genuine." CONTINUE....

Is Herman Cain Embarrassed To Be Black

AMES, IA - AUGUST 11: Businessman Herman Cain ...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
By Leonard Pitts Jr.

In his Miami Herald column, Leonard Pitts Jr. tackles the issue of whether GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain is a self-loathing black man because of his alignment with the Tea Party. He concludes that the bootstrapper who grew up in the segregated South is uncomfortable in his skin, not because of his Tea Party alignment but because of his own personal ideology.

This is for those who keep asking what I think of Herman Cain. In particular, it's for those who want to know what the tea party's embrace of this black businessman turned presidential candidate says about my claim that the tea party is racist. CONTINUE....

Moronic Fight Propels Cain Into Spotlight

By: Gregory Kane

Who is Lawrence O’Donnell, and why is he determined to make Herman Cain look good?

That might not be what O’Donnell – host of an MSNBC show called “The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell” – intended, but that’s what he did. Here’s what happened.

I was driving along last week listening to a local talk radio station, one of the conservative ones (“Angry White Guy Radio,” some people call it.)

The host told listeners about the testy confrontation O’Donnell had with Cain on the former’s show.

After sound bites of the Cain-O’Donnell tiff were played, quite a few people called the show, with many of them saying that while they hadn’t considered voting for Cain before they heard about his clash with O’Donnell, they were sure as heck thinking about voting for Cain AFTER hearing it.

Way to go, Larry. Way to go. CONTINUE....

Why The Lack Of Debate On Race?

SIMI VALLEY, CA - SEPTEMBER 07: Republican pr...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
By: Frederick Cosby

Did you hear that sound during Tuesday night’s Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire? That was the sound of GOP candidates not talking about issues regarding race in America. Even worse, it was the sound of the debate moderators – journalists – not asking the candidates questions regarding race in America.

Only black Republican businessman Herman Cain and Texas Gov. Rick Perry have fielded numerous questions on race – Perry largely because of the unfortunate N-word name of the hunting ranch his family leased and Cain because of his initial criticism of the ranch’s moniker.

Other than Perry’s ranch problem and Cain opining that race isn’t a big deal in America anymore, it’s been almost a race-free zone for the candidates who’ve enjoyed an almost free ride from debate moderators on the subject. More stringent questioning on the subject might produce some interesting answers. CONTINUE....

Is Herman Cain Playing 'Plantation Politics'?

By Michael Arceneaux

Like most of you, up until very recently I hadn't a clue as to what a Herman Cain was. And like many of you who have since been made aware of his presidential candidacy, I already miss those days of ignorance. While he can go on about being a different kind of political candidate, Mr. Cain's behavior suggests he's nothing more than the latest incarnation of an ever-lingering and consistently annoying cliché of American politics.

That being the antagonizing black conservative who bemoans racial politics yet conveniently and hypocritically finds ways to keep dabbling in it.

To Cain's credit, there are some positive attributes to him. As the son of a chauffeur to a former Coca-Cola executive who was tipped in socks, it's worth recognizing that Herman Cain is a self-made millionaire who at one time was the chief executive of Godfather's Pizza. Such a story embodies the American dream and is understandably alluring to some Americans in need of such symbolism. CONTINUE....

Herman Cain Suits Conservatives To A Tea Party

Herman CainImage via Wikipedia
By: Tonyaa Weathersbee

It’s not surprising that the Tea Party people would embrace a black man like Herman Cain.

The 65-year-old contender for the Republican presidential nomination reminds one of a younger, shaven version of Uncle Remus; the kind of black man whose success story serves as the comforting, de-contextualized tale they need to egg them on in their anti-government, anti-Obama fervor.

Cain is a man whose father, who, according to The Washington Post, worked as a chauffeur for the former head of Coca-Cola and used the stocks that his boss tipped him with to send his son to Morehouse College. Morehouse, as most of us know, is a historically-black college that was created during the segregated times that some Tea Party favorites, such as U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, would like to return to. CONTINUE....

Why President Obama And Herman Cain Are Praying For A Palin Run

This is an alternate crop of an image already ...Image via Wikipedia
By David A. Love

Sarah Palin has made some moves lately that signal she could enter the Republican presidential field. With the recent purchase of a $1.7 million home in Scottsdale, Arizona, a beefing up of her staff and the release of a feature film? about her stint as governor of Alaska -- with a debut set for next month in Iowa, of all places -- it sounds like Palin might be preparing to take the plunge into 2012 presidential politics.

If this is true, then there are two people who stand to benefit the most from the news -- President Barack Obama and Herman Cain.

A recent Gallup poll has an surprisingly strong showing for Cain, the former pizza magnate and Tea Party affiliate who has no experience holding political office. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads in the poll with 17 percent, followed by Palin with 15 percent; Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 10 percent; Newt Gingrich with 9 percent; Cain with 8 percent; former Wisconsin Gov. Tim Pawlenty at 6 percent, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann with 5 percent, with John Huntsman, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum with 2 percent apiece. Twenty-two percent remain undecided. CONTINUE....
